QuakeNotch 4.0 is here!
QuakeNotch 4.0 brings new features, improvements, and a more polished terminal experience.
Meowing Cat
QuakeNotch 4.0 is here w/ amazing new features and extreme optimization!
Hello QuakeNotch users! I'm so happy to announce that QuakeNotch 4.0 is finally here and we reached an amazing milestone with this update.
In this new update, we have so many new features, bugfixes, and extreme optimization for the minimum resource usage.
Let's see what amazing new things we have! 🥳
New Features
New Quake Terminal Features
In terminal side, we have one new feature and many improvement and optimizations.
Detachable Terminal Windows
Now, you can detach your terminal sessions into separate windows and attach them back to the quake notch terminal seamlessly.
New re-engineered Terminal Text Search
Now, our terminal's text search is amazing. It highlights all the matching text in real-time and it is much more robust and responsive than before. We also have search occurrences indicator on the scrollbar, making it easier to navigate through the results.
Improved GPU-Accelerated Terminal Rendering
I optimized many things in the terminal rendering.
New QPilot Agent Features
In this update, QPilot Agent one big feature, new better design and re-engineered harness architecture.
Model Explorer, Install New Models
Now, QPilot Agent has Hugging Face model explorer. You can browse, search, and install all the supported models and use them. I've optimized QPilot for most popular open models.
We currently support GGUF models with ChatML, Gemma 4 and Llama 3 chat templates. I have optimized QPilot harness for these models to ensure the best performance and compatibility on Mac hardware with hardworking on improving their consistency.
My recommended models for low-RAM Macs are Qwen 3.5 9b and Gemma 4 12b.
I test different models on QPilot Agent on M2 Max (38C GPU) 32 GB RAM.
Qwen3.5-9B-UD-Q5_K_XL
The Qwen3.5-9B is the smartest and most consistent model for low-RAM Macs according to my tests.
gemma-4-12b-it-Q6_K.gguf
The Gemma 4 12b is another excellent model for low-RAM Macs according to my tests.
It is less consistent than Qwen 3.5 9b but a bit faster and causes less stuttering while it works on low-RAM Macs.
You can explore and install different models directly from QPilot Agent using the Hugging Face model explorer. It will guide you about your hardware compatibility and optimal settings for each model.
For the most users, I recommend to use recommended models.
Improved Design
QPilot interface now looks better and cuter. You can try it with different notch backgrounds.
Adjustable Effor and Context Size
Now, you can adjust the effort and context size for QPilot Agent. We have Automatic mode for both that I optimized for your hardware and recommend for most users.
For the most users, it is recommended to use the automatic mode for effort and context size, as it is optimized for your hardware.
Improved Harness Architecture
The harness architecture of QPilot Agent has been re-engineered for better performance and stability. This allows for more efficient handling of tasks and improved overall responsiveness.
We have new agentic tools for the models and I designed and optimized them for best performance and usability by considering the needs and workflows of the Mac hardware capabilities.
Please be careful and aware while using Autopilot mode, as it can perform actions automatically based on the agent's decisions.
Especially when agent research on the internet during working on tasks.
See more about Prompt Injection attacks and how to mitigate them in the documentation.
New on Apple Music Integration
Apple Music integration was always difficult to make robust due to Apple's API limitations, bugs and frequent changes. In this update, we have improved the integration to be more stable and responsive.
We also have a new "play next song" mechanism based on your sorting option on QuakeNotch.
How to Update?
